How do you build bonds while WFH? Tips from the front lines.
Lots of us who are WFH are struggling to feel a part of our team these days. Our recent survey at commons of remote workers confirms this:
So what are teams doing to fill the gap? Over the last several months, we’ve talked to lots of remote workers about this, and we wanted to share some findings.
Fair warning: there isn’t a silver bullet solution…because there isn’t a tool today which substitutes for the feeling of being in the office.
This is precisely why we’re building commons — and can’t wait to help solve this problem!
For now, here are some tactics.
Create opportunities for non-work communication
When we’re co-located, we spend a decent amount of our day chatting with colleagues about non-work stuff. E.g. catching up after the weekend, coffee chats, office banter about what you’re watching on Netflix, etc.
This ‘small talk’ is important, but very hard to do in today’s WFH setup.
Teams we’ve spoken with are using off-topic Slack and Discord channels for this…
