Product Hooks to Drive Activation

The average company today uses an average of 130 SaaS applications. 130!

So if you have a new SaaS app, how on earth do you get your new application integrated into the rotation?

For most SaaS apps, to reach product market fit, you need users to activate quickly. To do that, it’s much easier if your product has a “hook”.

Product hooks encourage users to keep coming back for more, and they’re an essential part of any PLG strategy.

We’ll explore some of the most effective types of product hooks used by PLG companies.

Each of these hooks can dramatically increase the chances that an app gets into the core rotation of 130.

  1. Calendar Access. This is perhaps the most powerful of all hooks in SaaS because it automatically integrates into users’ daily workflow. If you can convince your users to give you calendar access you’re golden. Some key apps that leverage it: Zoom, Otter, Calendly.
  2. Network Effects: If your app that gets more valuable with each additional team member, the product has a better chance of spreading throughout the team. The marquee example here is Slack.
